9ct Gold Cameo Brooch
This is an Antique 9ct Gold Cameo Brooch. The Brooch has Birmingham Hallmark with makers mark 'WJP'. The cameo has the traditional lady's head raised on the peach background, surrounded by a gold mount and pin.

Cameo's are made from Conch shells which provide the carving material for the cameo cutters of Torre del Greco, Italy, the main manufacturing city for shell cameos. The shells from which these cameos are produced are found in the Torresi waters, the Bahamas, in the Caribbean, Central America, and in the waters off East Africa, particularly in Madagascar.
